Polystichum acrostichoides

Polystichum acrostichoides, known as Christmas fern, is native to eastern North America. It is easily separated from other species by its dimorphic leaves, with distal fertile pinnae that are contracted, and with confluent sori covering completely the abaxial surface. Photos taken in August 2004, in hardwood forest (Quercus sp.).
