Athyrium wallichianum

by | Feb 25, 2014 | Ferns, Observations | 0 comments

Athyrium wallichianum is a distinct species in Athyrium. It can be distributed over an elevation of 4000 m,  usually living with Dryopteris barbigera. This species used to be a puzzling one, and most pteridologists regarded it as a member belonging to Dryopteris. But it has two vascular bundles  in the petioles/rachis and swollen base of petioles, which could be diagnostic characters of Athyrium.
