Asplenium scandens exhibits several characters consistent with a hemi-epiphytic habit including a creeping rhizome, and dimorphic roots.  The roots are  either short-clasping and adhere the rhizome to the tree which it climbs, or elongate roots that descend to the ground and connect to the soil.
