Can’t name this Diplazium sp., from Hong Kong, sub tropical, 600-800m. Each pinna starts 2-pinnate (from rachis)some pinnules part stalked, then pinnatisect, pinnatifid, leading to terminal pinna 1-pinnate.

It‘s probably Diplazium matthewii (Copel.) C. Chr.

Wow – great plant! It looks to me like something of hybrid origin between a species with 2-pinnate leaves and one with 1-pinnate leaves of something similar. We described a similar-looking hybrid from Mexico that was a hybrid between a taxon with leaves that were once-pinnate pinnatifid and a ternate-leaved species. Did you find many individuals or notice if there were other Diplazium species growing with it?

Hi wtesto, the are 2 populations on different sides of the mountain stream side, one about 100m further up, both populations are 2-3m x 2-3m in size, the plants are not in the stream but 1-2 m away on the bank. this valley has quite a few Diplazium sp in it, however the common ones near by the species Diplazium virescens, Diplazium dilatatum. I do like Ran Wei idea of Diplazium matthewii as one possible parents.

Yes, it is possible that D. dilatatum is the other parent.

How about Diplazium mettenianum as the other parent.
