Phlegmariurus mooreanus

I was lucky to find a population of this narrow endemic species while doing field work in Pico das Almas. Phlegmariurus mooreanus is known only from a few localities of “campo rupestre” vegetation in the State of Bahia, Brazil. It has a very distinctive appearance and can be recognized by its thick, stiffly erect stems, which are densely covered by rigid,  uniformly recurved leaves.

Thanks, Wes! This is definitely one of the coolest lycopods I’ve seen. The collection was made in 2006, almost 8 years ago, but I uploaded the photos here thinking of you. There might be a duplicate at NY.
