This beautiful fern was found in the understory of a temperate rainforest in the heart of Bernardo O’Higgins National Park. Towering above its finely divided, ~1 meter long fronds were oldgrowth Nothofagus and Podocarpus trees draped in moss and Hymenophyllum species. I came across this species elsewhere in Chile but nowhere was it as tall and elegant as in these old, untouched rainforests at the toe of the Southern Ice Field.
