This species belongs to E. sect. setosa, which is characterized by the presence of subulate scales and conspicuous hydathodes. Within this group, it can be recognized by brownish rhizome scales, linear-lanceolate sterile laminae with round bases and acuminate apices, and fertile laminae with abundant intersporangial scales.
