Phlegmariurus mooreanus

by | Dec 28, 2013 | Lycophytes, New Collections | 2 comments

I was lucky to find a population of this narrow endemic species while doing field work in Pico das Almas. Phlegmariurus mooreanus is known only from a few localities of “campo rupestre” vegetation in the State of Bahia, Brazil. It has a very distinctive appearance and can be recognized by its thick, stiffly erect stems, which are densely covered by rigid,  uniformly recurved leaves.

Fernando! This is such a nice species – good to see you collecting all these lycopods lately 🙂

Thanks, Wes! This is definitely one of the coolest lycopods I’ve seen. The collection was made in 2006, almost 8 years ago, but I uploaded the photos here thinking of you. There might be a duplicate at NY.
