Mycopteris leucosticta is primarily confined to the Choco region of the northern Andes where it is found on rocks or steep rocky slopes.

This is a highly divided Pleopeltis murorum,  verging on P. monosora, an Andean species.  In some cases, the edge between these species is not clear.
