Observations: Large patch growing scattered across steep slope of serpentine outcrop, likely between 50-100 clumps. Growing both in rock crevices and in thin serpentine-derived soil. Growing with Larix laricina, Juniperus communis var. depressa, Betula papyrifera, Cirsium sp., Campanula rotundifolia, Adiantum aleuticum, and Adiantum viridimontanum.
This species was very common in disturbed woods along the Rio Calderas above Boquete. The plants were far larger than other populations of this species that I have observed in Costa Rica.
